Tamara Hunter is a Creative Arts Therapist, Certified School Counselor in the state of Georgia, and Certified Early Childhood Educator in the state of Georgia. Tamara earned a M.S. degree in Dance/Movement Therapy from Pratt Institute, M.A. degree in School Counseling and B.A. degree in Early Childhood Education from Clark Atlanta University.
Tamara’s experience includes working with children, adolescents, and adults in individual, family and group therapy. Tamara has worked in inpatient & outpatient behavioral health facilities, residential treatment centers and the public-school system. Tamara specializes in Dance/Movement Therapy psychotherapeutic interventions designed to assist with symptoms caused by trauma, anxiety, depression, anger, self-esteem & chemical dependency. Dance Movement Therapy incorporates both verbal and non-verbal techniques, providing variety to support self-expression & increase self-awareness.
Tamara was a selected member of the Rapid Improvement Team at Kings County Hospital, NYC where she developed policies and standards of work to integrate the treatment of mental health and substance abuse in behavioral health. In recognition of her skill level, she was selected to attend the Behavior Health Leadership Scholarship Summit held in New Orleans in 2012 sponsored by the Network for the Improvement of Addiction Treatment. The conference theme, presented to staff upon her return, focused on rethinking the business model of addiction, mental health and recovery services by presenting evidenced based practices for improved outcomes with clients. Tamara currently hosts Facebook Live discussions providing a platform for Maternal Mental Health conversations. She has specialty training in working with Postpartum related issues, as well as infertility.
Tamara is passionate about helping others identify inner strengths to support their healing process. She utilizes, encouragement, humor, person-centered, holistic approaches as well as therapeutic skills of empathy and attunement, to provide a safe space for clients to engage in, and manage, their own healing journeys.
